Have you ever had your teammates bully you into running a particular loadout for their benefit? Everyone who plays Warlock in Destiny 2 knows the feeling. Back in 2018, the Forsaken expansion added a new Solar super called Well of Radiance, and in team-based activities we’ve been forced to run it ever since. When you pop this ult, the Warlock slams a flaming sword into the ground which forms a glowing pool around it for 20 seconds. 

Currently, standing in that well grants all players a 25% damage buff and, more significantly, a whopping 50% reduction to incoming damage. As you can imagine, that’s incredibly useful in enemy-dense activities, particularly at higher-end difficulty where damage is substantially amped up.

The Rogue Prince of Persia looks pretty good—and I’d probably be playing it later this week, if only Hades 2 had not devoured my entire attention span this month. Its developers Evil Empire (an arm of Dead Cells creators Motion Twin, who’ve developed a ton of content for it over the past few years) seemingly agreed, since they delayed the whole thing last week.

Google plans to integrate techniques from an AI system built to win games of the complex board game, Go, in order to bulk out its next-gen large language model and rival OpenAI’s ChatGPT.

The new large language model (LLM), known as Gemini, will tap into the game-winning AI system to leverage its skills in reinforcement learning. This is expected to offer improvements in tasks that current LLMs, like ChatGPT or Google’s Bard, may struggle with or open up new opportunities for its use.

“At a high level you can think of Gemini as combining some of the strengths of AlphaGo-type systems with the amazing language capabilities of the large models,” Demis Hassabis, CEO of Google DeepMind, says in a story from Wired.

It looks like Counter-Strike 2 comes with one of our favourite graphical quirks from Half-Life: Alyx, namely extraordinarily realistic liquids in bottles.

We’ve spoken before about our love of realistic liquids in Half-Life: Alyx. The feature was patched in after the game’s release and immediately became a fan favourite. I remember thinking at the time that it’s the most realistically sloshy bottle I’ve ever laid my mortal eyes on. In a game, that is.

In Alyx, it was all made possible by a shader that cleverly makes a bottle appear as though it’s both translucent and filled with liquid, but the back-end of the engine isn’t actually running any sort of liquid simulation to do it. Update 15/03/2024: Two days after releasing patch 1.5.0, the Steam Input settings for MGS 1 have now been updated to enable the fix to actually work. 

The Metal Gear Solid Master Collection released in a bit of a state. Sure, Konami never promised anything other than straight ports of a bunch of Metal Gear games, but the versions of those games that hit PC and modern consoles last October were tangibly worse than their original versions. They were rife with muddy textures, audio glitches, and—in the case of MGS 1—bad analogue controls.
